PRE-TREATMENT:

Before treatment with wrinkle-relaxing injections such as Botox/Dysport/Jeuveau:

  • If possible, arrive at your appointment with clean skin.

  • Avoid Aspirin (unless medically directed), and ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) to decrease the risk of prolonged bleeding and bruising.

  • Avoid massaging or touching the area treated on the day of treatment.

  • Avoid lying down, and bending forward for 4 hours after treatment.

  • Avoid activities that cause facial flushing on the day of treatment, including consuming alcohol, hot tub or sauna use, exercising, and tanning.

  • If bruising occurs, it typically resolves within 7-10 days. Topical or oral Arnica may help to reduce bruising or swelling, please use as directed by your provider.

  • Wait 2 weeks for the full effect of your wrinkle-relaxer treatment. Touch-ups are only performed 2 weeks after initial treatment. If there is a need for a touch-up, it is recommended to follow-up within the 2-3 week window after your initial treatment.

Before treatment with dermal filler injections:

  • If possible, arrive to your appointment with clean skin.

  • If you have had or are planning dental work (including dental cleaning), or immunizations 2 weeks before or 2 weeks after your dermal filler appointment, please contact Stellar Medical Aesthetics to discuss.

  • Dermal filler appointments should be separated from such treatments by 2 weeks prior to and after.

  • Avoid Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Advil, St. John's Wart, oral Vitamin E, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) in the 24 hours prior to your treatment as they may increase the risk of bruising and bleeding in the injection area.

  • If you are currently taking anti-coagulation medications (including but not limited to: Warfarin, Coumadin, Heparin, Lovenox, Enoxaparin, and Plavix), inform your treatment provider prior to your treatment. You may or may not be a candidate for treatment with dermal fillers.

  • If you have a history of cold sores (oral herpes simplex virus), contact Stellar Medical Aesthetics at (508) 810-6891 prior to your treatment. Anti-viral medications may be prescribed prior to treatment.

POST-TREATMENT:

Please observe the following practices after treatment with dermal fillers:

  • Avoid applying pressure or touching the treated area for the remainder of the day.

  • Monitor the skin surrounding the treatment area, and promptly report any skin color changes. Notify your provider of bruises, swelling, and paleness of the skin.

  • Cleanse the area gently with a mild cleanser and water.

  • Avoid vigorous scrubs, exfoliation, or facial treatment in the area of treatment for 72 hours.

  • Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or UV/tanning beds for 72 hours after the procedure.

  • Avoid manipulation of the area following the injection unless specifically instructed by your provider.

  • For pain/discomfort, use cool packs and over-the-counter analgesics (acetaminophen or Tylenol as directed).

  • Oral or topical Arnica Montana, an herbal supplement may help with reducing bruising or swelling from cosmetic treatments. Do not take Arnica Montana if you have a history of liver or kidney problems.

  • Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Advil, St. John's wart, oral Vitamin E, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) such as Aleve may promote the risk of bruising and bleeding in the injection area.

  • If you are prone to cold sores (oral herpes simplex), take your prescribed anti-viral medication as prescribed.

  • If signs and symptoms of infection occur (warmth at the site of injection, discharge/pus, pain/discomfort, or you develop a fever) Please contact Stellar Medical Aesthetics at (508) 810-6891 promptly.

  • Avoid retinoids and Glycolic Acid products for five days.

  • Avoid exfoliating cleansers for 2 weeks.

  • Avoid make-up for at least 24 hours after treatment.

  • Immediately after treatment your skin will be evenly red and feel sensitive like a sunburn, and this should resolve over 24-48 hours for a lighter treatment (for mild sun damage) or over 24-72 hours (for deeper treatment, such as for acne scarring).

  • Avoid sweaty exercise and sun exposure for 3 days after treatment.

  • Contact Stellar Medical Aesthetics at (508) 810-6891 should you develop a cold sore, or have any questions or concerns.
